Greater Washington Sports Alliance (GWSA) heard opportunity knocking when they launched the brand new National Marathon in 2007. Skeptics feared that runners in the region were still stinging from a failed attempt at a DC-area marathon several years before. GWSA asked Fixation to come out of the gate strong with a new brand identity, posters and direct mail to attract affluent 24-54 year old athletes. The inaugural run attracted a crowd of more than 1000 runners, exceeding expectations. Now in its third year, the successful event has secured a lucrative sponsor and is now called the SunTrust National Marathon.
